Why is the time stamp on my e-mail wrong?
Due to the global nature of the Internet, UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is used as the time standard. UTC is derived from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and generally uses a 24 hour format. The time stamp applied by a mail server is in UTC/GMT format, and is therefore different from the time on your computer, which is most likely set according to EST (Eastern Standard Time).
