Look for us in the Jan/Feb 2006 issue of Vermont Magazine. The feature article, with photos, is written by Kate Carter about her ride with Atii Sled Dogs.

Dog Sled Rides
Again for winter 2005-06!

We had previously been doing this privately, but Atii Sled Dogs is again offering rides on a limited basis to the general public—at your own risk of fun and addiction. (We feel dog sledding and skijoring should be considered as an “extreme adventure sport.” Waivers of Liability & Release must be signed.)

If temperatures are cold enough (below 30 F), if the snow conditions and trails are safe for our sled dogs & passengers, and if the trained dog handler is available to help, dog sled rides will be available on a limited basis.

Tours are usually 6-10 miles, but may range from 4-12 miles, using a 4-, 6-, or 8-dog team, depending upon conditions.

Plan on 2½ to 3 hours which includes harnessing and hitching the team to the sled, dog sled adventure, hot cocoa or hot cider after the dogs are watered and snacked, and time for questions & answers and hugging the dogs.

Since we are a small kennel, passengers need to weigh a total of about 200 pounds fully dressed in warm winter gear & boots. Young kids over age 3 are welcome to ride with an adult.

A “Liability Waiver & Damage Release” form must be signed by all adults (age 18 & over) & a parent/guardian for those riders under age 18. Ride at your own risk; our dogs are well trained, but this is an adventure sport where anything can happen—hopefully nothing eventful—especially if there are loose dogs, deer, turkeys or other critters surprising the team while we’re on the trails.

Your adventure can consist of helping us get the dogs ready to run or you can just sit inside the padded sled bag, snuggled in a fleece blanket and enjoy the scenic ride. (Don’t forget to bring your camera.)

Due to being a small kennel, rides are limited and must be booked ahead. (No calls or faxes after 8:30pm please.)

Rides in the early mornings during midweek are best, but since conditions vary daily, contact Atii directly for booking your adventure.
